CHESTNUT TIMBERS:: APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS
 | Longleaf has acquired a large quantity of American Chestnut logs which have been discovered in the deep hollows of the Appalachian Mountains. These logs were part of the old growth forest of chestnut devastated by the blight of the early 20th century.
|

| The trees were so large that despite the fact that these logs have been laying on the forest floor for many decades, they are still yielding boards in excess of three feet wide. Salvaging and milling this material is a very difficult process. Logs mucked out of the hollows are saturated with water and require a long period of air drying before they are sent to the kiln. All the material from this special lot has been sold.
